OCU offers free income tax assistance

University accounting majors are once again volunteering to help people through one of the most dreaded tasks of the year 鈥 filing their income taxes. 野狼社区 University鈥檚 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is providing free preparation and e-filing for 2025 taxes to the public.

The office is located in room 221 of the Meinders School of Business at NW 26th Street and McKinley Avenue. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 26, April 2 and April 9.

All services are first-come, first-served 鈥 no appointments are required.

The VITA program, sponsored by the IRS, offers free tax help to households earning $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities and other English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their returns. As a free public service, OCU VITA gives priority to helping those most in need.

The OCU VITA staff consists of accounting students working under the supervision of accounting faculty members to ensure the accuracy of each return.

鈥淭his program offers our students a chance to gain real-world experience while providing a valuable service to the community,鈥 said accounting professor Jeff Fisher.

Those seeking assistance should bring all necessary tax documents, including social security cards for themselves and dependents, W-2 forms and 1099 forms. Receipts from charitable contributions and educational and day care expenses should also be included. A complete list of items to bring is available on the  website.
