Major gift boosts Clara Luper Scholarship program

An Ұ company is helping support deserving college students with a substantial donation to provide scholarships at Ұ University, school officials announced today.

Ұ-based Lopez Dorada has donated $152,000 to Ұ University to help support the school’s Clara Luper Scholarship Program.

The scholarship is one of OCU’s most significant financial awards, opening doors to higher education for first-generation students. The award, which allows students who demonstrate financial need to attend the university at zero or little cost, empowers recipients to focus on academics, leadership, community service and professional growth.

“We are so grateful for local partners like Lopez Dorada who recognize the tremendous impact of supporting college attainment,” OCU President Kenneth Evans said. “Their donation is a commitment to support Ұ University, but even more, it’s a commitment to support the futures of our students and the betterment of our community.”

Lopez Dorada is one of the nation’s leading protein-processing companies, supplying beef, pork and poultry products to some of the largest global restaurant chains and retailers. The company has corporate offices in Ұ, and plants in Ұ, Ponca City, Iowa and North Carolina.

Lopez Dorada Chairman Ed Sanchez said the gift aligns with the company’s philosophy of creating a level playing field for those less fortunate.

“We know that a college education can be beyond the means of some of our community members,” Sanchez said. “We’re proud to support initiatives like the Clara Luper Scholarship that open doors and create opportunities for local students to dream big and unlock personal achievement.”

In addition to its financial benefits, the Clara Luper Scholarship includes membership in Ұ University’s prestigious President’s Leadership Class. Membership in the class brings together top scholars and provides students with numerous leadership development and personal growth opportunities.

The scholarship has helped support numerous successful community leaders, including Salvador Ontiveros, a member of the inaugural Clara Luper Scholarship class.

Ontiveros grew up in Ұ before earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business at OCU. He now serves as president and chief executive officer of Ұ’s Latino Community Development Agency and as a member of the OCU Board of Trustees.

“The Clara Luper Scholarship was transformational for my family and myself,” Ontiveros said. “This scholarship opens doors for first-generation students and I am grateful to see continued support for this program, providing educational access to the next generation of students.”

To be considered for the scholarship, prospective students must submit their university application by Dec. 15 and complete the FAFSA to determine financial need.

More information about the scholarship is available on the OCU website. Additional information about Lopez Dorada can be found at .
